John Jumper, Demis Hassabis and the AlphaFold team
AlphaFold 2 reached a median global distance test score of 92.4 out of 100 across the CASP14 targets, by DeepMind’s count, where the remaining gap is about the size of experimental error. On the hardest targets the median was 87.0. The method was published in Nature in July 2021, and its code was released openly.
Outside verdict: Announced at CASP14 on 30 November 2020, after independent assessors scored the predictions blind, before this registry existed. The statement covers one protein chain on its own: how proteins move, bind drugs and work with each other stays open. Demis Hassabis and John Jumper shared half of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for this work; David Baker received the other half, for protein design.
