French hiring records show permanent hires of 21–29-year-olds fell 28% in the most AI-exposed jobs since late 2022 ↗

HEC Paris reports a study by its economist Antonin Bergeaud with the Banque de France: since November 2022, open-ended hires of 21–29-year-olds fell 28.3% in the occupations most exposed to generative AI against 7.5% in the least exposed. Firms using AI more hire relatively fewer young people. The authors say the data do not establish that AI caused the fall.

Danish study linking worker surveys to administrative records finds early-career share no different where firms encourage chatbots ↗

Writing for Brookings, the authors of a Danish study link surveys of about 25,000 workers in 11 AI-exposed occupations to monthly administrative records through 2024. They report no measurable effect on earnings or hours, and an early-career share that moved no differently at workplaces that encourage chatbot use. The study measures actual use rather than exposure, outside the US.
